Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Bested by SUNY Cortland

Cortland, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's lacrosse team traveled to the campus of SUNY Cortland on Wednesday for an out-of-conference matchup against the Red Dragons. The Golden Flyers fell by a score of 19-7, remaining winless on the season at 0-6, while Cortland improved to 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two squads took their time getting acclimated to one another early in the opening frame, keeping things scoreless through the first 5 minutes of play. Cortland was first on the board 5:34 into the quarter, but the Golden Flyers were able to get even less than 2 minutes later with a goal from senior Kyle Rosenberger. The Red Dragons assumed control of the game in a heartbeat, potting two goals in five seconds followed by three more before the end of the period. They led Nazareth 6-1 after one.
  • The Golden Flyers weathered the storm a bit in the second quarter, kicking it off with a goal courtesy of junior Anthony Menickelli. Rosenberger found the net for his second of the game just minutes later, and senior Louis Cogliandro capped off the half after two Cortland goals. The Red Dragon lead remained 5 goals going into half-time, with a score of 9-4.
  • Nazareth got things started once again to start the second half, as Rosenberger buried his third of the contest to cut the lead to 4. Cortland however, went on to find another gear. They scored 5 consecutive goals in under 5 minutes to extend their lead to 14-5.
  • The final frame was a familiar story for the Golden Flyers. They went up a man early and got on the board off of a shot from senior William O'Neill, but were countered by a SUNY Cortland onslaught. Nazareth allowed 5 straight goals for the third time this game. Senior Joey Hathorn added on late for the purple-and-gold, but it was of no consolation as the game came to a close with a final score of 19-7 for their opponents.

GAME NOTES
  • Kyle Rosenberger recorded a hat-trick, raising his team-leading goal total to 14. He added an assist to secure the 4-point game.
  • Louis Cogliandro took 6 shots and scored his 9th goal of the season.
  • Menickelli (1), Hathorn (4), and O'Neill (7) each added a goal in this one.
  • Sophomore defenseman Nicholas Hinck picked up 6 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers on the defensive end.
