Women’s Volleyball Swept by Hartwick, 3-0

ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Volleyball (2-12, 0-3) fell to Hartwick (8-8, 3-1), 3-0, Friday evening inside Kidera Gymnasium. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hartwick jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set and extended its advantage to 11-2, putting Nazareth in an early hole. The Golden Flyers responded with a 6-2 run, highlighted by blocks from Alana Lucey, Leah Fusilli and Lorianna Mattutat, to cut the deficit to 17-10. Sarah Harvey added a service ace, and Anna Malbone served an ace late in the set, but Hartwick closed out a 25-16 win.
  • Nazareth opened the second set with a 2-0 lead behind a Hartwick attack error and a kill from Lucey. Hartwick responded with a six-point run to take a 6-2 advantage, then extended the lead to 11-4 with a combination of kills and a service ace. The Golden Flyers got kills from Mattutat, Fusilli and Lake Ziober, but Hartwick continued to build its lead and secured a 25-14 win.
  • The Golden Flyers kept the third set competitive early, with kills from Lucey, Harvey and Ziober helping Nazareth stay within one point at 7-6. Hartwick pulled ahead with a decisive run to extend its lead from 11-10 to 17-10. Nazareth responded with points from Fusilli and a block by Macy Quibell to cut the deficit to 18-13, but Hartwick maintained control down the stretch and finished the match with a 25-18 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Alana Lucey registered a team-best four blocks, while Leah Fusilli and Macy Quibell added three apiece as Nazareth held an 8-3 advantage over Hartwick in total blocks.
  • Fusilli led the Golden Flyers with 12 digs and six kills for eight points, her fourth match this season with double-digit digs. 
UP NEXT 
Nazareth returns to Kidera tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 11, to host Russell Sage and RIT. The Golden Flyers face the Gators at 11 a.m. before taking on the Tigers at 3 p.m.
