Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Suffers 2nd Loss of the Season to Elmira, 2-1

ELMIRA, NY (nazathletics.com) – The Nazareth men's soccer team (6-2-0, 4-1-0) carried a 4-game winning streak into Elmira where they took on the Soaring Eagles (4-5-1, 2-2-1) on Saturday. The Golden Flyers came up short in the contest, suffering a 2-1 defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The match started slow offensively for both teams, with the first shot registered coming from Nazareth's Braeden Callahan and being turned away by the Elmira keeper.
  • The Golden Flyers continued to carry play throughout the first half, recording 6 shots to just 2 for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira led in corners and fouls through 45 minutes.
  • The two squads entered the half tied and scoreless, each playing stellar defense.
  • The second half was a different story in Elmira, as Nazareth conceded the first goal of the match just 3 minutes in.
  • It only took the Golden Flyers 5 minutes to even things back up on the road, as they fought to extend their winning streak to 5. Tyler Warmington was the goal scorer, with Joey Weaver picking up the assist.
  • Nazareth continued to lead in possession and shots on goal in the second frame, doing all they could to escape this hard-fought match with a win.
  • It was Elmira, however, who picked up the winner at the 82-minute mark of the contest. They went up 2-1 and fended off the late Golden Flyer push for an equalizer, securing the home win.
