HOUGHTON, NY (
nazathletics.com) – Nazareth's men's soccer team (6-3-0, 4-2-0) suffered a defeat to the Houghton Highlanders (5-3-4, 2-2-2) on Wednesday night by a score of 4-2. The game was tied late before a long weather delay before the Highlanders pulled away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A choppy start to the game for both squads led to Houghton burying a goal just 6 minutes in. Just 2 minutes later however, the Golden Flyers evened the scoring at 1 goal apiece. It was a Joey Weaver goal from Mason Stanco that tied things up.
- Possession continued to sway back and forth early on before both teams traded goals once again. Tyler Warmington gave Nazareth the brief lead, but just a minute later the Highlanders tied the match back up at 2-2.
- The Golden Flyers stayed on the offensive to start the 2nd half, outshooting Houghton 6-1 in the opening 12 minutes, but the game was delayed due to nearby weather conditions at the 78-minute mark.
- Coming out of the prolonged break, Houghton jumped to an immediate 3-2 lead, sending Nazareth into late desperation to regain the tie.
- It was Houghton, however, who tallied a last-minute goal at 89:13 to ice the game and secure the win by a score of 4-2.
MATCH NOTES

- Weaver's goal was his second of the season
