Geneva, NY - The fifth-ranked Nazareth women's hockey team defeated the William Smith College Herons Friday afternoon on the road in Geneva, NY. The Golden Flyers came out with a fast start, potting three goals in 6 minutes and 29 seconds where they would then hold on to defeat the Herons with a final score of 3-2. Nazareth continues to stay perfect on the year, extending its record to 14-0-0.
How it Happened:

Lindsay Moses would kickstart the scoring for Nazareth at 2:16 into the period, as the Golden Flyers put heavy pressure on the Herons in the offensive zone. Marina McCann and Corsica Skibinski would set up Moses who wrapped around the net and tucked the puck into the far corner of the net to put the Golden Flyers up 1-0

The Golden Flyer pressure would continue to put the pressure on the Herons as 1:50 later the Flyers would strike for their 2nd of the night as Logan Marchese scored on a Heron miscue. Amy Laskowski picked off the Heron pass and set up Marchese, making a nice deke and putting the puck top shelf, increasing the Nazareth lead to 2-0. Amy Laskowski and Nikki Sharp got credited with the assists.

Nazareth struck yet again at 6:29 into the first period. Ella Mannila picked her corner of the net off of a hard pressure play by Ella Konrad who freed up the puck to Meredith Boettcher. Boettcher made a nice pass to Mannila who found her way to the net putting the Flyers up 3-0. Boettcher got credited for the assist.

The Golden Flyers and the Herons would exchange opportunities throughout the first period. Mia Gonsalves kept the net shut, stopping all six of William Smith's shots. As well as the Nazareth defense standing strong blocking four shots in the first period.

Nazareth began the second period continuing to put heavy pressure on the Heron defense as they would out shoot them 8-2 early in the period.

At 7:08 of the 2nd period, William Smith got on the board off the rush.

The Golden Flyers started the third= period on the penalty kill. William Smith began the period with an explosive start on the power play generating a ton of offensive opportunities.

At 1:54 the Herons pressure would paid off, to bring the Herons within one.

The Golden Flyers and Herons both traded special teams opportunities in the third period, however both were unsuccessful.

A penalty late in the third period to William Smith put Nazareth on its second powerplay of the night. Even with heavy pressure and multiple scoring opportunities, the top ranked power play in the nation was unsuccessful going 0-for-2.

The Golden Flyers outshotthe Herons 9-4 in the third period and 32-16 for the game. Mia Gonsalves stopped 14 out of 16 shots on the night.
