ROCHESTER, NY – The fifth-ranked women's hockey team saw its first contest of season on Friday not in the win column, tying 2-2 with Buffalo State at Tim Horton's Iceplex. Nazareth is now 14-0-1 on the year, while Buffalo State moves to 9-5-1.
How It Happened:
- The first period saw Nazareth outshot the Bengals 10-6, but the score was 0-0 heading to intermission.
- Each team got on the board in the second period, beginning with the Bengals at the 5:24 mark on an even strength goal.
- Nazareth was able to respond less than five minutes later as a flurry of pressure resulted in an even 1-1 score. Ella Cedrone had a shot stopped before Logan Marchese collected and roofed it into the net.
- In the third period, Nazareth took the lead at 9:22 on the power play. Amy Laskowski fired in a shot off the boards and Ave Meteyer put home the rebound on the backside. Ella Konrad also had an assist on the play.
- The Bengals were able to even up the score late in the game on a shorthanded goal to help push the game to overtime.
- The 3-on-3 overtime period had several decent chances from each team, Nazareth's best coming from Marchese and Meredith Boettcher.
- Goaltender Mia Gonsalves, who made 23 saves in the game, made five in the extra period. No saves were bigger than on a 2-on-0 with under 20 seconds to play.
Game Notes:
- Marchese recorded her fifth goal of the season.
- Sydney Gurlea played in her 100th career game.
