Women’s Hockey Powers Past Salve Regina, 6-2

ROCHESTER, NY - The Golden Flyers explode for three goals in the third period to complete the two game sweep over Salve Regina on Monday afternoon. Nazareth stays perfect on the season, extending their win streak to 13 games.

How It Happened:
  • Mia Abruzzese got things going for the Golden Flyers, scoring her first collegiate goal just four minutes in. She ripped a shot from the point that found its way through traffic and past the goaltender. The assists were credited to Nikki Sharp and Meredith Boettcher.
  • Salve Regina would respond just five minutes later with a point shot of their own to tie the game 1-1.
  • Towards the end of the opening period, the Golden Flyers found themselves on a 5 on 3 power play where they would capitalize to take a 2-1 lead. Ave Meteyer would get the goal with a great shot to beat the goaltender high over the blocker side. Amy Laskowski and Meredith Boettcher got the assists on the play. 
  • Nazareth outshot Salve Regina 13-5 in the first period.
  • A little over seven minutes into the 2nd frame, Nikki Sharp scored a magnificent goal, deking out two Salve Regina defenders before sliding it five hole on the goalie to make it 3-1 Nazareth. The one assist was awarded to Ella Konrad
  • In the dying minutes of the second, goaltender Mia Gonsalves came up big for the Golden Flyers as she slid across the crease to make the left pad save to keep Nazareth in front by two. 
  • Despite a penalty heavy second period, Nazareth would keep their 3-1 lead going into the third. 
  • After a scoreless 14 minutes in the third period, Charlotte Crudale scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Logan Marchese, to make it 4-1
  • A minute later, Ella Mannila fed Amy Laskowski who scored a beautiful breakaway goal, beating the goalie on her backhand.
  • Salve Regina would score a few minutes later, but Nazareth responded again as Logan Marchese to made it 6-2 for the Golden Flyers.
  • Nazareth finished the game with a 38-21 shots on goal advantage.

  • The Golden Flyers will travel to Geneva on Friday, January 9th for a matchup against William Smith College at 2 p.m.
