Women’s Basketball Picks Up Senior Day Win over SUNY Poly, 66-41

ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Basketball (16-4, 11-1) picked up a senior-day win over SUNY Poly (5-14, 2-9), 66-41, Saturday afternoon inside Kidera Gymnasium. The victory extends the Golden Flyers win streak to eight and gives Nazareth its 10th win in Empire 8 action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nazareth fell behind early, trailing 4-0 in the opening minutes before Molly Benetti converted on a layup and two free throws to even the score.
  • Madalyn Kelly helped Nazareth take its first lead late in the first quarter, notching a three-pointer in the final minute giving the Golden Flyers a 15-14 edge after one quarter
  • Nazareth used back-to-back baskets from Leah Fusilli and Payton Littlefield early in the second quarter to push its lead to six, but SUNY Poly fought back to tie the game at 24 before Katie MacLachlan and Morgan Caraballo netted buckets to carry a 29-24 lead into halftime.
  • Out of the break, Nazareth seized control with a dominant third quarter. Brayden Schultz scored early in the paint and MacLachlan hit a three to extend the margin to eight, 34-26.
  • The Golden Flyers built momentum with a 17-0 stretch midway through the third quarter, sparked by MacLachlan, Fusilli, and Kelly, turning a five-point lead into a 23-point advantage at 51-28. Kelly capped the third quarter with a jumper as Nazareth outscored SUNY Poly 22-4 in the frame. 
  • In the fourth, Benetti and MacLachlan added early buckets to maintain a 25-point margin before Nazareth closed out a 66-41 victory at home.
GAME NOTES
  • Katie MacLachlan led the Golden Flyers with 17 points, shooting 5 of 8 from the floor and 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. She added six assists, five rebounds and two steals in her 16th double-digit scoring performance of the season. 
  • Molly Benetti registered 14 points in the victory, her 12 game in double figures this season. She also contributed four rebounds, two assists and one block. 
  • Madalyn Kelly rounded out Nazareth's double-digit point scorers with 13 points, going 5 for 9 from the field and 2 of 3 from three. 
  • Leah Fusilli chipped in a season-high nine rebounds over SUNY Poly with eight points.
