ROCHESTER, NY (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Men's Basketball (11-3, 6-0) extended its win streak to five with a 71-54 victory over Keuka (6-8, 3-2) to remain perfect in Empire 8 action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth opened the game with an early 10-3 run to jump out ahead of Keuka before quickly stretching the margin to 14-6 midway through the opening half
- The Golden Flyers pulled away with a decisive push late in the first half, going up 32-12 after a 10-0 spurt that made it a 20-point game with 3:23 remaining
- Keuka trimmed the deficit late, but Nazareth still carried a 32-20 lead into halftime after controlling the paint and limiting second chances
- Nazareth opened the second half by extending the lead to 39-24 and kept the margin between 12 and 16 points through the early minutes as both teams traded baskets
- A mid-half surge pushed the score from 44-32 to 52-36, giving Nazareth its largest second-half cushion and halting Keuka's momentum
- The Golden Flyers maintained control the rest of the way, answering every rally and closing out a wire-to-wire 71-54 victory at the Kidera Gym
GAME NOTES
- Jaylen Savage led the Golden Flyers with 16 points in the win, going 7 of 13 from the floor and 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. The senior guard has posted double-digit points in all 15 of Nazareth's games this season.
- Merritt Holly registered his seventh double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds over the Wolves. The sophomore center added one block and one steal on the evening.
- Luke Insley recorded 15 points and a team-best six assists against Keuka, his eighth game with double-figure points. He shot 60 percent from the field with two rebounds.
