Brockport, NY - Nazareth Men's Basketball (9-4, 4-0) picked up its third straight Empire 8 victory against SUNY Brockport (5-7, 1-2), Saturday night inside Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Nazareth set the tone from the opening tip, building an early double-digit advantage.

The Golden Flyers surged ahead midway through the first half, stretching the lead to as many as 18 points after knocking down six first-half three-pointers and taking advantage of opportunities at the free-throw line to take a 42-25 lead into halftime.

Nazareth continued to control the coming out of the break, pushing the margin to its largest point of the night at 23 (63-40) midway through the second half.

Perimeter shooting kept Brockport from gaining traction, even as the Golden Eagles found more rhythm.

SUNY Brockport matched Nazareth with 37 second-half points and had a late push to trim the deficit, but the Golden Flyers remained composed.

Nazareth closed out the contest at the line and limited second-chance opportunities to secure a 79-62 victory.

The Golden Flyers led for 38:20 of game time and shot 50 percent from three-point range to seal the victory.

Tyler Putney led the Golden Flyers with 23 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-12 from the floor and knocking down seven three-pointers to pace the offense.

Merritt Holly recorded his sixth double-double of the year with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, adding two blocks and finishing with the top efficiency rating on the team.

Jaylen Savage contributed 14 points while adding six rebounds, four assists, and a block in a well-rounded performance.

Luke Insley facilitated the offense with a team-high seven assists.

As a team, Nazareth shot 48.1 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, while holding SUNY Brockport to 29.0 percent shooting overall.
