ARLINGTON, VA (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Volleyball (0-6) fell to Kean (5-1) and Marymount (VA) (2-4), 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the Marymount Quad.
MATCH ONE: KEAN 3, NAZARETH 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kean notched seven straight points to lead 7-0 before Nazareth got on the board on a kill from Alana Lucey. Both teams traded points until Cougars put a 6-0 run to gain a 19-5 advantage. The Golden Flyers tallied two more points before Kean finished out the first set with five straight scores to win 25-6.
- Nazareth and Kean kept pace with each other early in the second set until the Cougars went on another 6-0 run to gain a 10-4 advantage. Both opponents alternated scoring before the Golden Flyers notched five straight points to make it 14-12 in favor of Kean. The Cougars took three of the next four until Nazareth won three straight to come within one, 17-16. Kean's third 6-0 run gave it a 23-16 edge before the Cougars capitalized on a service error and kill to claim a 25-18 set victory.
- Both teams stayed close to begin the third frame until Nazareth recorded four straight points to lead 10-9. Kean retook the advantage with 10 of the next 12 points to own a 18-12 edge before the Golden Flyers climbed back to tie the set at 21. Nazareth and Kean tied three times in the final moments of the frame until the Cougars took two more to finalize a 26-24 set win and 3-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Leah Fusilli led the Golden Flyers with nine kills and two service aces for 11 points. She also tacked on four digs from the back row.
- Katie Evans made her collegiate debut against the Cougars, notching eight assists at setter.
- Jenna Mattison notched a team-best nine digs to bring her season total to 46.
MATCH TWO: MARYMOUNT (VA) 3, NAZARETH 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage before both teams traded serves to bring the Saints lead to eight, 19-8. Nazareth climbed back with two, 3-0 runs to make the first set 21-16 until Marymount won four of the next five points to win the first frame, 25-17.
- The Saints started off strong again in the second set with a 7-2 edge before the Golden Flyers chipped away at the Marymount defense to tie it up at 11. The Saints used a 7-1 run next to retake a 21-14 lead. The Golden Flyers took five of the next nine points but dropped the second stanza, 25-19.
- Both opponents kept pace late into the third set, which featured 13 tie scores and five lead changes. Nazareth stayed even with Marymount until 21-21 when the Saint posted three straight scores to go up 24-21. A kill from Leah Fusilli saved one match point but the Golden Flyers were defeated 25-22.
GAME NOTES
- Jenna Mattison led the Golden Flyers with 11 digs, her third match this season with double-digit digs
- Sarah Harvey and Alana Lucey notched a team-best five kills apiece
- Lucey hit a season-high .364 clip with five kills on 11 swings and added two blocks
- Harvey notched a season-best three service aces against the Saints
- Leah Fusili recorded nine digs, four kills and two blocks in the loss

Nazareth returns to the Flower City for a midweek match at the University of Rochester, Tuesday, Sept. 16. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
