Overton Scores Early as Nazareth Beats Alfred, 1-0

ALFRED, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Senior Tatum Overton scored the lone goal just six minutes into play, and Nazarreh held on for a 1-0 road win over Alfred Wednesday night. With the victory, the golden Flyers improve to 3-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Empire 8 play, while the saxons fall to 5-3-1 and 1-1-1. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 6th minute, Overton netted her third goal of the season. She finished off a pass from junior Shannon Sgombick to put Nazareth in front early. 
  • Nazareth controlled much of the first half, outshooting Alfred 8-5, while senior goalkeeper Delany Malone made one save to preserve the lead. 
  • The Golden Flyers continued to apply pressure in the second half, with five more shots on goal, but Alfred's keeper made three saves to keep it a one-goal game. 
  • Malone came up with another stop late in the half to secure a shutout, her fourth of the season. 
GAME NOTES
  • Overton's goal was her second game-winner of the year. 
  • Sgombick picked up her first assist of the season. 
  • Malone finished with two saves for her fourth shutout of the season. 
  • Nazareth outshout Alfred 13-10 overall including an 8-2 advantage shots on goal.
