Field Hockey Opens Season With 4-1 Win at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Field Hockey opened the 2025 season with 4-1 road win over Oberlin at Knowlton Athletics Complex and Bailey Field Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Golden Flyers opened up scoring less than two minutes into play with a goal from Hannah Janes off an assist from Audra Mieczkowski. Nazareth doubled its lead just 33 seconds later when Isabel Porterfield found the back of the net on a pass from Michaela Cushman to lead 2-0. 

Nazareth held its opponents scoreless into the second quarter before Oberlin notched a goal on a penalty at 24:05 to cut the visiting team's advantage to 2-1. The Golden Flyers kept the momentum going in the second half with their third score of the day from Cushman off a Mieczkowski helper at 42:54. 

Janes registered her second goal of the day with two minutes left in regulation to increase Nazareth's lead to three. The Golden Flyer defense held Oberlin scoreless for the entirety of the second half, allowing just two shots to finalize a 4-1 victory.

  • The Golden Flyers earned a win over Oberlin to start the season for a second consecutive year after defeating the Yeoman, 6-1, Aug. 31, 2024 
  • Hannah Janes registered the first two-goal game of her career with first and fourth quarter scores over the Yeomen
  • Audra Mieczkowski recorded two assists in the win vs. Oberlin, her first game with multiple assists since tallying three against Russell Sage, Oct. 12, 2024
  • Michaela Cushman notched one goal and one assist for three points, her fifth career game with three or more points 
  • Isabel Porterfield scored her first career goal over the Yeoman early in the first quarter
  • Lauren Bachner tallied three saves in goal across 60 minutes of play
