Women's Lax Advances to Semis After a 15-5 Victory Over Hartwick

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Nazareth women's lacrosse defeated No. 5 Hartwick at home on Tuesday evening following a dramatic lightning delay to advance to the semifinal round on Thursday. The 15-5 win was highlighted by Katherine McPeak's seven-point performance that included four goals and three assists.

The Golden Flyers opened up the scoring with a goal from Grace Gardner just thirty seconds into game play, who raced around the back side of the net to heave an unassisted goal past Hartwick's goalie. From there, the Golden Flyers scored the next seven goals consecutively, all in the first quarter to go up 8-0 heading into the second.

Grace Seither scored the Golden Flyers' second goal off an assist from Liddie Hoare at the 11:40 mark. The Golden Flyers' next four goals came all came within one minute and 35 seconds of each other from the 8:57 mark to the 7:22 mark. First it was McPeak from Gardner, followed by Hoare from Sophia Scialdone. Scialdone then scored unassisted, followed by another Gardner to McPeak connection.

Nazareth's final two goals of the quarter came in the last thirty seconds of game play, Hoare scoring from McPeak at the :28 mark, and Seither going unassisted with 15 seconds left to end the quarter.

Hartwick earned two goals back midway through the second period, but those goals were quickly negated by Julia Dietz and Makenna Misiurewicz, Dietz going unassisted, and Misiurewicz scoring off a great pass by Gardner. Heading into halftime, the Golden Flyers led 10-2.

Nazareth scored two goals within five minutes of the third to force the running clock rule with a 10-point lead. McPeak began the scoring off a crisp pass from Misiurewicz, and Gardner scored on a man-up opportunity on an assist from Dietz. With about two minutes left in the quarter, Misiurewicz found McPeak again to go up 13-2, and with 33 seconds left in the third, Emily Reichard scored her first goal of the game on an assist from McPeak.

Seconds into the final quarter, McPeak found Reichard again to score the Golden Flyers' final goal of the game. Hartwick made a short-lived run in the end of the quarter, but it was not enough to bring the Hawks back and the Golden Flyers took the 10 goal victory at 15-5.

Allie Klestinec was a wall for the Golden Flyers, ending the game with 12 total saves after playing the complete game in the goal.

The Golden Flyers will travel to No. 1 St. John Fisher on Thursday at 4 p.m. to compete in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 tournament.
