ALBANY, NY – Senior Julia Dietz totaled 3 points (2G, 1A) to reach 100 career points to help the Nazareth Women's Lacrosse team beat Russell Sage College in a 19-6 final on Saturday evening.
The Gators end their season 3-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Naz finishes the regular season 10-7 overall, 6-3 in the E8 conference for the 4th seed in the playoffs.
After delaying the game for an hour due to weather, the Golden Flyers were ready to play. Graduate student Liddie Hoare capitalized off a turnover less than one minute into the game to score the first of her 5 goals for the night, and senior Katherine McPeak earned her first assist of the evening (finished with 2G and 2A).
Senior Sophia Scialdone was next to score off a free position then later off an assist from junior Grace Gardner, who would go on to score a goal for herself and assist two more goals in the first quarter. The Golden Flyers led 9-3 going into the first intermission.
Gardner, Scialdone, and Hoare all added to their points during the second, while senior Emily Reichard netted her lone goal of the contest in a woman-up situation, with McPeak assisting. Nazareth ended the first half with a 10-goal advantage for a 14-4 lead.
It was only Golden Flyers in the third period, with Dietz scoring a goal off a pass from Scialdone for her 100th point while classmate Grace Seither nailed a free position for her only goal. Makenna Misiurewicz earned an assist on Scialdone's 7th point of the night in the last minute of the third for the 18-4 lead.
Junior attack Sydney Dann was the only Golden Flyer to score in the fourth quarter for a final score of 19-6.
Junior Allie Klestinec earned the win with 6 saves, while freshman goaltender Gianna Tantalo defended the net for the fourth and final quarter.
The Golden Flyers return to NLPA to host quarterfinals of E8s against Hartwick College on Tuesday April 29th, time TBA.
