Men's Lax Tripped Up By #11 St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – St. Lawrence, ranked 11th in the USILA poll, knocked off visiting Nazareth 17-5 in a men's non-conference lacrosse game played at SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon. Kyle Rosenberger had a pair of goals, and Zac Isaac finished with a team-high 11 saves for the Golden Flyers.

Following the loss, Nazareth drops to 3-3. With the victory, the Saints improve to 3-1.

St. Lawrence scored twice in the opening 2:17 of the contest to take the early lead. About two minutes later, Matthew Farrington cut the Golden Flyers' deficit to one after driving from behind the Saints' net for the unassisted goal.

Following Farrington's tally, the Saints responded with five consecutive goals spanning 10:30 to stretch their lead to 7-1. Before the end of the first quarter, however, Rosenberger scored his first goal and the Golden Flyers' second of the game. Farrington found Rosenberger at the doorstep of the crease to record an assist on the play.

Quinn McKercher had Nazareth's lone second quarter goal with 9:26 to play in the stanza. McKercher created the opportunity with a drive from behind the net and found the back of the net on a high shot. McKercher's goal brought the Golden Flyers back to within five, 8-3.

The Saints answered with a trio of goals in a span of 33 seconds to take control of the game, 11-3, with 7:43 left in the second quarter.

Nazareth's attack was frustrated by St. Lawrence's goalie Michael Marinello, who made nine saves in the first half to help the Saints to build their advantage. After allowing the Saints' goal spurt, the Golden Flyers held St. Lawrence scoreless for the final 7:43 of the quarter, which included a pair of saves from Isaac, who entered the game after the Saints' three-goal run.

St. Lawrence outscored Nazareth 3-0 in the third and held Nazareth without a goal until Louis Congliandro broke the drought 3:29 into the fourth. On the left wing, Congliandro drove towards goal line extended before reversing and driving back above the crease and burying a shot to make it 14-4. A minute later, McKercher nearly gave Nazareth back-to-back goals, but Marinello made a diving, point blank save to stymie the attempt.

Rosenberger tallied his second goal of the game with 6:02 left to play. After receiving a pass from Owen Riley, Rosenberger drove through the open lane in front of the Saints' goal and buried a hard shot in the back of the net.

St. Lawrence finished with advantages in shots on goal (32-19), ground balls (36-18), and faceoffs (16-10). Both teams finished 0-2 with the extra attacker.

The Golden Flyers are in action again on Wednesday, March 12, when Nazareth hosts Cortland at NLPA Field at 4 p.m.
