Men's Lax Burned by Red Dragons

ROCHESTER, NY - Men's lacrosse fell to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday evening 18-8. Matthew Farrington earned a hat trick, scoring three of Nazareth's eight goals.

The action started off quick in the first quarter, the Red Dragons striking first with a goal in just over two minutes of play. Only 11 seconds later, Farrington scored his first goal of the game from Quinn McKercher. Farrington then followed up that goal with another goal less than one minute later, this time unassisted.

After allowing the Red Dragons to go up by one, McKercher tied the game up at three with an unassisted goal. Cortland and Nazareth each scored once more in the quarter to send the game into the second at a tie score of 4-4. Owen Riley scored Nazareth's fourth goal off an assist from Hayden Lucas.

Cortland began to open it up in the second, not allowing Nazareth to score, despite two extra man opportunities. Heading into halftime, the Red Dragons had the lead over the Golden Flyers 7-4.

Nazareth's drought continued into the third quarter, the Golden Flyers not able to find the net until William Meagher was able to put one past Cortland's goalie with just over eight minutes left in the third to make the score 9-5 in favor of the Red Dragons.

After allowing three more Cortland goals, the Golden Flyers were able to score with a goal from Kyle Rosenberger assisted by Louis Cogliandro to set the score at 12-6. Heading into the final quarter of play the Red Dragons led 14-6.

In the final quarter, the Golden Flyers were outscored 4-2 to give SUNY Cortland the 18-8 win. Nazareth's two fourth quarter goals came from Cogliandro and Farrtington with an assist credited to Luke Suchyna on Farrington's goal.

Zac Isaac started in goal for the Golden Flyers and had six saves. McLean Ralston played in the fourth quarter and ended the game with four saves.

The Golden Flyers will be back in action on March 16 for a 12 p.m. match-up against the visiting Western New England Golden Bears.
