ROCHESTER, NY - In a thrilling game from wire-to-wire it was the stick of senior
Sophia Scialdone on the free position which help life Nazareth to an 11-10 overtime victory over the University of Rochester on Monday night. Goaltender
Allie Klestinec made some huge saves throughout the game, finishing with 14.
Nazareth is now 5-4 overall, while Rochester is 4-6.
Scialdone stayed red-hot, going for four goals and adding three assists. She has now delivered seven points in each of the last two games. She also pushes her season total to team-leading 40 points on 27 goals and 13 assists. The four assists in the game was a career-high.
Trailing 10-9 in the fourth quarter, Scialdone picked up her third assist, with a connection to
Katherine McPeak to tie the score with 3:07 to play. She had two goals in the win.
Nazareth had a huge defensive stand, forcing a turnover on a shot clock violation with 1:23. The Golden Flyers called two timeouts but were unable to deliver the game-winning goal in regulation.
A turnover by each team in the extra period set up Scialdone drawing a free position and bouncing a low shot in off the turf to secure the win.
The game was separated mostly by a goal throughout, the only time it was not was in the third when the Yellowjackets led 7-5.
Liddie Hoare was good for three goals, while
Grace Gardner,
Julia Dietz, and
Emily Reichard all tallied a goal.
Nazareth travels to SUNY Poly on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. start.
