ROCHESTER, NY – Following consecutive days of being honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), Nazareth junior
Jaylen Savage was voted as a finalist for the NABC Division III Player of the Year. Keene State senior guard Octavio Brito was selected as the National Player of the Year
On Tuesday Savage was named the NABC District 3 Region Player of the Year and on Wednesday he picked up First Team NABC All-America honors.
Savage is now the only other Nazareth men's basketball player alongside Corey McAdam '10 to be a finalist for the national player of the year. McAdam was a finalist for the Jostens Trophy in 2009-10. On Wednesday, Savage joined McAdam as the only other player to be named a First Team All-American.
Savage put together a season to remember in 2024-25, being named Empire 8 Player of the Year – the sixth player in program history to be bestowed that honor.
Savage ranked 40
th nationally at 21.0 points per game and 15
th nationally with 217 field goals made. The 217 field goals made was an Empire 8 record for a single season.
In all, Savage put up 566 points on the year and surpassed 1,000 career points (1,281) in his third season for the Golden Flyers. Saved scored in double figures in 25 of 27 games.
He was efficient from the floor, shooting 44.7 percent, while burying 94-of-107 free throws (87.9 percent – 28
thnationally).
In addition to his scoring ability, Savage averaged 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
