ORLANDO, FL - On Sunday in the second day of the Spring Games in Orlando, the Golden Flyers defeated Gallaudet 9-0. Two Golden Flyers had homers over the fence in the win. Nazareth's second game of the day against Keene State has been delayed until further notice due to the weather.
Nazareth's overall record now stands at 2-1 for the 2025 season.
After holding the Bisons scoreless in the top, Nazareth's bats were ready for action right away. With one out,
Morgan Russo put one over the fence to immediately give the Golden Flyers the edge. The two outs that followed were hard fly balls to center field that just had too much under them, and the score going into the second inning was 1-0.
In the second inning, the Golden Flyers put up two more runs.
Madison Hicks,
Madison Chodkowski, Hailey Suitor, and
Julia Maciag all had singles in the inning, while
Sarah Ferruzza had a sac ground ball to advance Hicks. Hicks and Chodkowski were the two runners who scored to put the Golden Flyers up 3-0.
In the top of the third, the Bisons were able to get two runners in scoring position on second and third with one out. With the two runners on,
Kaijah Alexander struck out the batter and then
Caitlyn Knapp picked off the runner on third,
Maddie Klein the one to apply the tag, to get out of the top of the inning unscathed.
In the bottom of the third, the Golden Flyers put up three more runs, starting with a homer from Alexander as Nazareth's first batter of the inning. Other hitters in the inning included Hicks, Ferruzza, and Chodkowski each with singles. Aside from Alexander, the other two runners that scored were
Jocelyn Trimber, who pinch ran for Hicks, and Ferruzza.
Following a three-up-three-down top of the fourth, the Golden Flyers scored another three runs in the bottom. Russo started the rally out with a double to left with one out, and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Alexander was able to get on base after an error, which scored Russo.
Bella Romano pinch ran for Alexander.
Macie Vetter then joined the lineup cold and warmed up fast by cranking one deep over the fence to earn a two-run home run. The score heading into the fifth inning was 9-0.
The Golden Flyers once again held Gallaudet blank in the top of the inning to force a run-rule and take the game in five innings at a score of 9-0.
Alexander was credited with the shutout that included five strikeouts.
The Golden Flyers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 18 against Knox College at 9 a.m. in Orlando, FL.
