GENESEO, N.Y. - Nazareth men's basketball lost on the road at SUNY Genseo 81-70 on Saturday evening in an Empire 8 conference match-up.
Merritt Holly had a double-double in the effort.
With the loss, Nazareth is now 9-4 in conference play, while Geneseo improves to 6-7.
In the first half, Geneseo narrowly led the way for the first 10 minutes of game play. Geneseo's lead didn't extend to double digits until the Knights went up 27-15 with just under nine minutes left in the half. The double digit lead stuck going into the second half, the Knights ahead 37-26.
In the second half, the Knights continued to build their lead, peaking at 50-32 with an 18-point advantage over the Golden Flyers with 14:54 left to play. Nazareth showed some resilience and got the lead down to under 10 with 11 minutes left to go, and even got it down to five in the last four minutes of the game.
However, the Golden Flyers could not recover from the deficit and dropped the game 81-70.
Holly's double-double came from 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaylen Savage led the team in points with 21.
Jack Broderick put up eight points on the night, while teammates
Zachary McFarland and
Luke Insley had seven and six respectively. Insley also led the team in assists with six.
Tyler Putney scored four for the Flyers, while
Will Burnett and
Gabe Lucarelli each added a pair of points.
The Golden Flyers will be back at home on February 14th at 7:30 p.m. as they host a conference match-up against Russell Sage.
