UTICA, NY - The 15
th-ranked Nazareth women's hockey team lost in a heartbreaker on Friday night against #13 Utica University falling 2-1. With the loss, Utica moves in front of the Golden Flyers in league standings with 17 points, compared to 16 for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers are now 13-6-1 overall (5-2-0 UCHC), while the Pioneers jump to 15-5-0 overall on the season (6-1-0 UCHC).Â

Utica scored the first goal of the game 7:15 into the first period. The Pioneers took the puck from behind and wrapped around the net.

The Golden Flyers took advantage of a power-play five minutes later. After multiple great attempts, 12:21 into the first period, freshman,
Amy Laskowski passed the puck to graduate student
Julia Holmes. Holmes took a slapshot from the point and it slid behind Utica goalie, Angela Hawthorne's, right shoulder for a Golden Flyers goal with 1:01 left of the power-play.

It was 1-1 going into the second period.Â

The second period was back and forth between both teams but Nazareth out shot Utica 14-7.

11:44 into the second period, Utica broke the 1-1 tie. There was chaos in front the Golden Flyer's net which resulted in a 2-1 lead for Utica.Â

The Golden Flyers had three power play chances during the second period, but couldn't put anything away.Â

The score remained 2-1 going into the third period.Â

With 40 seconds left of the third period, Hoff was taken from the net so Nazareth could create a 6 on 5 situation to generate shots on net. The Golden Flyers had three great shots in the last 13 seconds of the game that were all saved by Hawthorne.Â

Hoff made 20 saves in the loss.Â

The Golden Flyers are home, Saturday February 8 for a 6 pm rematch against Utica University.Â
