ROCHESTER, NY – Host Nazareth rallied from three goals down to tie the game with :27 seconds to play on to have the goal waved off as the Golden Flyers fell 3-2 to Manhattanville on Friday night. Nazareth and Manhattanville have a quick turnaround, playing on Saturday at 2 p.m. back at Tim Hortons Iceplex.
With the loss, Nazareth drops to 6-12-2 and 2-11-2 in league play, while Manhattanville moves to 7-12-1 and 6-8-1, respectively.
Nazareth got behind in a 2-0 hole after one period of play. Just over eight minutes into the contest, Nicholas Rogers followed up his own rebound to open the scoring.
At the 14:15 mark of the period, Manhattanville took advantage of a power play opportunity to double its lead.
Nazareth had a few strong chances in the second period, including a shot fired by
Ethan Louisos with 3:03 left in the period that was partially saved by the Valiants goaltender but it trickled just past the post.
Manhattanville led 3-0 heading into the final frame.
Logan Tobias netted his 12
th goal of the season just :54 seconds into the third period to breathe some life into the Golden Flyers offense.
Nate Mann and
Blake Frost picked up assists on the play.
Midway through the period Frost used his speed on a cross-ice pass from Tobias to sneak past the defense and beat the Valiants goaltender to bring Nazareth within 3-2.
Nazareth went on the power play with just under three minutes remaining, generating several chances, but not breaking through.
With :27 on the clock,
Josh Dressler ripped a shot from the point that made its way into the net, but the goal was called off for goaltender interference.
Matt Sayles made 21 saves in net.
