PITTSBURGH, PA – The Nazareth University women's ice hockey team scored half of their goals directly off rebounds and winning net-front battles in the Saturday afternoon 6-0 win over Chatham University, securing the number 1 seed for the upcoming UCHC tournament. Senior goaltender
McKinley Hoff earned her 30 th career shutout with the win as well.
Nazareth improves to 16-6-1 overall (8-2-0 UCHC) and Chatham notch another loss for a record of 2-18-2 overall (0-10-0 UCHC). Nazareth will host either Chatham or Manahattanville in the semifinals on March 1.
The Golden Flyers first goal came on the powerplay after freshman
Brooke Judkiewicz buried a rebound from classmate
Amy Laskowski's shot off the left side dot. Sophomore
Abby Flanagan was also credited with an assist.
With just under a minute to go in the first period, freshman
Sofia Pittis netted her fourth goal of the year off another rebound, this time from sophomore
Nikki Sharp's shot. Nazareth was in the lead 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
After successfully killing off a penalty, the Golden Flyers were able to convert a turnover at their defensive blue line to a breakaway opportunity for Laskowski. Laskowski was denied with her shot at the slot, but senior
Ivey Lyden was there to bury her second goal of the weekend for the 3-0 lead.
A great step up in the neutral zone by freshman
Ave Meteyer caused a turnover that Lyden was able to pick up and skate back down the ice to score her second goal of the game. Judkiewicz was also credited with an assist.
1:19 minutes later, sophomore
Allie Zack's slapshot was blocked down, but junior
Corsica Skibinski was able to score from the slot for a two-period total of 5-0. Sophomore
Lindsay Moses also earned an assist on the goal.
Laskowski finally scored a goal of her own by slapping the puck past the Cougar goaltender after Sharp was able to force a turnover at the Chatham blueline for the 6-0 final.
Nazareth had 45 shots on goal to Chatham's 17 and dominated the face-off circle 29-19.
The Golden Flyers host their final regular season match-up against Manhattanville College next Friday at 6:30pm and will be celebrating seniors

Sydney Swanson at 3:00pm on Saturday for the team's Senior Night.
