Flanagan Scores Twice as Golden Flyers Beat Chatham, 5-1

PITTSBURGH, PA - Junior Abby Flanagan scored twice to help the Nazareth University women's ice hockey team beat the Chatham University Cougars 5-1 on Friday night. Sophomore Alexis Kindred also had two points on the night with a goal and an assist.

Nazareth now stands 15-6-1 overall (7-2-0 UCHC) while Chatham is 2-17-2 overall (0-9-0 UCHC).

To open the scoring, senior assistant captain Ivey Lyden lasered one in from the slot off a great pass from Kindred. Freshman Brooke Judkiewicz also received an assist on the goal. Naz led 1-0 just over the halfway mark of the first.

The Golden Flyers' second goal came off an offensive zone face-off win, where sophomore Ella Mannila passed the puck down the half-wall to classmate Maggie Jacoby. Jacoby slide the puck to Flanagan in the slot, who collected the puck and spun around to shoot the puck and establish the 2-0 lead.

A tough turnover at the goal line leads to a quick goal for the Cougars to half the lead heading into the first intermission.

In the first 5 minutes of the second period, Nazareth was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity when Kindred buried a rebound off freshman Sophia Pittis' shot from the left-side dot.

At the halfway mark of the game, graduate student Julia Holmes ripped a shot from the point. Sophomore Nikki Sharp and freshman Amy Laskowski earned assists on the goal for the 4-1 lead that held going into the third.

Nazareth's fifth goal of the contest was the result of a forced turnover from junior Sydney Gurlea, who's breakaway attempt was stopped by the Chatham goaltender, but Flannagan was there to bury her second goal of the game for a final score of 5-1.

The Golden Flyers are back in action against the Cougars tomorrow Saturday 15th at 3 p.m.
