ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman
Alex Erlain netted his first-career goal, the game-winner, 6:30 into the third period to propel Nazareth to a 3-2 victory over Brockport on Saturday night. The win snaps a nine game-losing streak for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth picked up the much-needed conference win, its first since December 6, against the same Brockport team. Nazareth is now 7-13-2 and 3-12-2 in the UCHC, while Brockport is 4-16-2 and 2-15-0, respectively. With Chatham's 2-1 win over Manhattanville on Friday, Nazareth (17 points) now trails both Chatham and Manhattanville by five points (22).
With the score knotted at 2-2 in the third period, Erlain picked an opportune time to score his first collegiate goal.
Will Halecki poked away the puck in the Golden Flyers defensive third, clearing the way for
Mark Meinecke to skate up the ice and dump the puck to Erlain to do the rest.
After carry over penalty from the first period, Brockport made good :45 seconds into the second period take a 1-0 lead.
The hosts evened the score at the 3:33 mark, with as
Cole Bauman dropped it back to
Ethan Louisos for a slap shot into the net.
Brockport regained 2-1 advantage with an even strength goal at 14:30.
Nazareth had a response on the power play as
Liam Quinlivan and
Logan Tobias switched places at the top of the point. Liam found his brother on the doorstep on a beautiful pass for a tap-in goal, his ninth of the year.
Matt Sayles made 24 saves to earn his first win of the season.
Nazareth travels to Brockport for a 4 pm matchup on Saturday.
