THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Women's Basketball (6-3, 1-0) dropped the first game of its West Coast trip at California Lutheran (10-1, 2-0), 85-57, Sunday afternoon inside Gilbert Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nazareth opened the game with an early transition basket but fell behind as Cal Lutheran built an 18-10 advantage by the end of the first quarter.
- The Golden Flyers struggled to generate consistent offense in the second quarter, allowing the deficit to grow to 42-19 at halftime.
- Nazareth responded out of the break with its strongest stretch of the game, outscoring Cal Lutheran 22-20 in the third quarter to bring the score 62-41 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
- The Golden Flyers continued to score at a higher rate in the fourth quarter, but Cal Lutheran maintained control and pushed the lead back beyond 20 to secure a 85-57 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Molly Benetti led the Golden Flyers with 20 points in the loss, her third game this season with 20 or more points. The senior forward went 10 of 16 from the field with four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
- Katie MacLachlan chipped in nine points and nine rebounds with three assists and two steals.
