Women’s Basketball Wins Big Against Westminster, 66-45

ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth's commanding fourth-quarter performance sealed the win, 66-45. The Golden Flyers build off their strong start and improve to 5–2 on the year. They advance to the championship game, awaiting the winner of Potsdam and Piedmont.
 
How It Happened:
  • The game opened with a fast tempo and Nazareth took an early 8–6 lead four minutes in. Sarina McDowell paced the attack with four early points.
  • The first quarter closed with more of the same, this time with Westminster in the lead 16-13.
  • A strong couple of possessions from Kiara Anglin would put Nazareth back in front 19–16. She dished to Molly Benetti in transition and followed it up by finishing through contact for the and-one.
  • A turnover ridden end of the quarter for the Golden Flyers allowed Westminster to tie things up 24-24 at halftime.
  • Molly Benetti led the way for the Golden Flyers with 7 points. Sarina McDowell and Kiara Anglin had 5 each. Both sides shot at a similar clip, with Nazareth holding a slight edge at 26.5% to 25%.
  • The second half opened at a slower pace, but a three-pointer from Tessa Schuey briefly put Nazareth ahead before Westminster answered with one of their own to claim a 29-28 lead.  
  • Nazareth would then go on an 8-0 to give them their biggest lead of the game at 36-29 with three minutes to play in the third quarter. The run was led by Molly Benetti and Tessa Schuey.
  • The third quarter would end with Nazareth leading 38-34. 
  • Nazareth came out firing in the fourth as they rattled off eight quick points. McDowell powered through for an and-one, while Caraballo buried a three to push the lead to 46–36. 
  • The Golden Flyers built off their quick start and blew the game open after Katie MacLachlan hit a three pointer to extend the lead to 55-38. 
  • Nazareth outscored Westminster 28-11 in the 4th quarter to propel themselves to a blowout victory. 
 
Game Notes: 
  • Molly Benetti recorded 16 points, 9 rebounds, and had a season high 6 blocks
  • Morgan Caraballo recorded a season high 10 points
  • Sarina Mcdowell finished with 8 points and 9 assists
  • Katie MacLachlan had 9 points and a season high 6 assists
  • Kiara Anglin had 7 points and a season high 10 rebounds
  • Nazareth shot 63.2% from the field in the fourth quarter

  • The Golden Flyers are back on the court tomorrow, December 14th at 3 p.m. for the Sandy DeWolf McCormack Memorial Holiday Tournament championship game at Kidera Gym.
