Canton Holds Off Men's Hockey in Home-Opener

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth men's hockey squad was unable to win its home-opener on Friday night, falling 2-1 to SUNY Canton at Tim Horton's Ice Plex. It was Nazareth's (2-1) first loss of the season, while the Kangaroos improve to 3-0.

How it Happened:
  • Nazareth outshot the Kangaroos 13-7 in the opening frame, going 0-2 on the power play
  • Canton cashed in a rush with just over five minutes left in the first to take a 1-0 lead into the break
  • Seven minutes into the second period, Nazareth was able to even the score as a beautiful forecheck steal by Lucas Stanojevic resulted in a goal from Nate Mann. It was Mann's first goal of the year
  • Canton converted on one of its two power plays in the period shortly after to regain a 2-1 advantage
  • The Golden Flyers had a massive shot advantage for the game, finishing with 43 to Canton's 23.
  • Canton finished the game 1-4 on the extra man, while Nazareth was 0-3
  • Paul Dalessio got his first-career start in net, making 21 saves and allowing two goals
