ROCHESTER, NY – The host Nazareth men's hockey team gave #6 Geneseo everything it could handle on Friday, falling 2-1 to the perennial power at Tim Horton's Iceplex. Nazareth falls to 3-4 overall and 0-3-0 in UCHC play, while Geneseo moves to 5-1-1 and 1-0-0, respectively.
How it Happened:
- Both teams came out strong in the opening period with Geneseo's forecheck proving to be especially effective.
- The Knights scored a beautiful wraparound goal near the midway point and took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
- Nazareth evened up the score in the second period just three minutes in as a defensive giveaway and a one-time blast from Lucas Stanojevic made it 1-1.
- Goaltender Mason Joseph had a phenomenal period, making 20 saves, including a sliding save at the end of a power play to keep the score at 1-1.
- The Golden Flyers killed off two penalties in the final 6 minutes of the second period.
- In the third period, Joseph suffered a collision at the net that forced him to miss the rest of the game – Lincoln Crosby came in to finish the game.
- The Knights scored the eventual game-winner nearly nine minutes in the period.
- Nazareth pulled the goalie with a little over two minutes remaining, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Game Notes:
- Joseph made 38 saves in 45:36 of play, allowing one goal.
- Crosby made seven saves in 12:28 of action and allowed one goal.
- Nazareth held Geneseo to 0-for-4 on the power play, while going 0-2 on the extra-attacker.
- The Knights finished with a 47-39 edge in shots.
