Grantham, PA – Four quarters were not enough as host Messiah was able to earn an 87-81 win over Nazareth in the championship game on Saturday of the Messiah Tournament. With the loss, Nazareth falls to 1-1, while Messiah moves to 2-0.
How it Happened:
- Nazareth trailed by two points after a quarter of play, but the score was tied at 29 at the half
- The Golden Flyers trailed by as many as nine in the fourth quarter at the 2:35 mark before storming back
- Molly Benetti hit four-straight free throws, followed by a Kiara Anglin bucket to pull within 70-67 with 1:27 to play
- Anglin eventually tied the game at 71 with :28 seconds to play and the Falcons missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
- The Golden Flyers never led in the overtime frame but remained within six points until the end
Game Notes:
- Benetti was 9-for-21 for 23 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double
- Katie MacLachlan neared a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds
- Madalyn Kelly added 14 points and four assists
- Kiara Anglin was good for 12 points and nine rebounds
