ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Hartwick brought a heavy offensive presence, generating 20 penalty corners, en route to a 4-0 win over the Nazareth field hockey team on Saturday at NLPA Field. It was the first conference loss for the Golden Flyers. Nazareth is now 6-4 overall, and 3-1 in Empire 8 play, while Hartwick moves to 4-5 and 3-1, respectively.
How it Happened:
- Hartwick came out strong in the opening half, generating 13 penalty corners to Nazareth's three to put the pressure on
- The Hawks took advantage of one of those corners early in the second quarter to open up the scoring and take a 1-0 lead
- With three minutes left in the half, Hartwick was awarded a penalty stroke which it converted to make it 2-0. The score remained that way until the half
- Hartwick generated seven more penalty corners in the third and scored two more goals to make it 4-0
- Nazareth's best period came in the fourth when it outshot the Hawks 7-1 and generated four of its nine penalty corners for the game
- Lauren Bachner made 17 saves in the loss
- Isabel Porterfield led Nazareth with four shots
