Field Hockey Demolishes Elmira 8-1 in Regular Season Closer

ELMIRA, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Field Hockey (12-5, 8-2) closed out the regular season with a 8-1 win at Elmira (3-12, 2-8) Wednesday night. With the victory, the Golden Flyers secured the No. 3 seed in the Empire 8 Championship and will host No. 6 in the quarterfinal round Saturday. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Nazareth came out strong, taking a 2-0 lead behind early goals from Michaela Cushman and MacKenzie Dixson while holding Elmira without a shot.
  • The Golden Flyers extended their advantage as Cushman added her second goal and Isabel Porterfield scored late in the second frame to make it 4-0 at halftime.
  • Neither side found the back of the cage in a defensive third quarter with Nazareth maintaining control despite limited scoring chances.
  • Nazareth erupted for four more goals, including tallies from Hannah Janes, Hanna Barrett, and two from Audra Mieczkowski, while Elmira broke through for its lone goal to secure an 8-1 Nazareth victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Michaela Cushman led the Golden Flyers with two goals and and two assists, She ranks second in the Empire 8 with 2.50 points and 1.00 goals per game. 
  • Lauren Bachner notched nine saves in goal for her 10th win of the season. Bachner leads the Empire 8 with a .850 save percentage. 
  • Audra Mieczkowski tallied two goals and an assist against the Soaring Eagles, her third performance with three or more points this season. She now has 81 career points (67 G, 33 A), moving her into fourth all-time at Nazareth.
  • MacKenzie Dixson registered her first career goal over Elmira, the 12th different player to find the back of the net this season
  • Dixson posted a goal and an assist in the win for a career-best three points vs. the Soaring Eagles
