Women’s Soccer Records Big Win Against Elmira, 1-0

ELMIRA, NY - A late goal from Shannon Sgombick propelled Nazareth to a big Empire 8 conference win on Saturday afternoon. Nazareth improves to 8-5-3 and 6-2-2 in conference play. 

 

How It Happened:

  • The first 15 minutes of the game were conservative, as both teams did not record a shot. 

  • Nazareth then began to open the flood gates and generate opportunities, registering 10 first half shots but were unable to convert.

  • The Golden Flyers held Elmira to no shots in the first half.

  • The game would stay tied at 0-0 all the way until the 88th minute where Junior Shannon Sgombick would score her first of the season. Taylor Ashe sent a beautiful touch pass which allowed Sgombick to out run the Elmira defender and she made no mistake, driving one to the bottom left corner.

  • The shots finished 21-2 in favor of the Golden Flyers. Nazareth recorded 21 straight shots until Elmira generated two shots in the last 10 minutes of play. 

 

Game Notes:

  • Shannon Sgombick recorded seven shots to lead the team and her sixth goal of the season

  • Nazareth currently sits in 3rd place in the Empire 8 standings and have clinched a post season berth. 

 

What's Next:

  • The Golden Flyers finish out the regular season on Wednesday, October 29th with a matchup against St. John Fisher at 3:30 p.m. at Golden Flyer Stadium.
