BROCKPORT, NY - The Nazareth University field hockey team showcased an explosive offensive performance Saturday afternoon, scoring six times to earn a 6-2 victory over Brockport at Dr. Linda Arena Field.
With the win, Nazareth improves to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in Empire 8 play, while Brockport drops to 7-7 and 4-4, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Golden Flyers struck early as Sophomore Michaela Cushman opened the scoring in the 7th minute to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead. Junior Isabel Porterfield extended the advantage just before the end of the first quarter with a goal at 15:47, doubling the Nazareth lead.
Brockport responded with a penalty stroke goal at 18:24, but Nazareth answered immediately, less than a minute later, when senior Hailey Dimao scored to make it 3-1.
In the third quarter, the Golden Flyers' attack continued. Dimao notched her second goal of the day on a penalty stroke at 36:28, followed by a goal from senior Audra Mieczkowski, assisted by junior MacKenzie Dixson, just minutes later. Cushman then tallied her second goal of the contest at 44:44, assisted by sophomore Hanna Barrett, capping a dominant third quarter with three Nazareth goals.
Brockport added one more in the 42nd minute but the Golden Flyers maintained control the rest of the way to seal the win.

Nazareth held a 24-12 edge in total shots, including 17 on goal, and earned seven penalty corners.

The Golden Flyers and Brockport each committed 38 fouls in a physical match-up.
