Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – Freshman goalkeeper Bryan Tirado made nine saves to keep Nazareth within striking distance, but a late goal lifted SUNY Geneseo to a 1-0 victory over the Golden Flyers on Wednesday afternoon.
Nazareth moves to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3 in Empire 8 play, while Geneseo improves to 9-4-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams battled through a scoreless first half, with Tirado making several key stops to keep the Knights off the board. Geneseo continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, and finally broke through in the 88th minute after capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity.
Nazareth generated some quality looks of its own, finishing with five total shots and three on goal, but couldn't find the equalizer before time expired. The Golden Flyers earned two corner kicks, while Geneseo held a slight advantage with three.
Tirado's nine saves marked one of his best performances of the season, helping Nazareth stay competitive against a Geneseo attack that recorded 15 total shots and 10 on goal.
The match featured a physical tone throughout, with Nazareth whistled for 11 fouls and Geneseo for 13.
