Field Hockey Downs Houghton, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (nazathletics.com) - Nazareth Field Hockey (6-3, 3-0) picked up its third straight win to start Empire 8 play with a 3-1 victory over Houghton (6-2, 2-1) Wednesday night at NLPA Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Both Nazareth and Houghton were held scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play with each team taking four shots. 
  • Hannah Janes opened up scoring for the Golden Flyers early in the second quarter to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Highlanders evened up the score four minutes later, converting on a penalty corner opportunity to level the field at one. 
  • Audra Mieczkowski gave the Golden Flyers back the advantage halfway through the second quarter on a penalty corner pass from MacKenzie Dixson to go up 2-1.
  • Kristina Fisher tacked on an insurance goal for Nazareth late in the third quarter to bring the Golden Flyers edge to two, 3-1.
  • The Nazareth defense held Houghton off the board in the final quarter despite two Highlander shots and four penalty corner opportunities.
GAME NOTES
  • Lauren Bachner collected 12 saves for her third straight winning decision, her fourth double-digit performance in goal this season. 
  • Hannah Janes registered her third straight game with at least two points after posting a first-quarter goal over Houghton. Janes ranks second on the Golden Flyers with 16 points in nine games. 
  • Audra Mieczkowski netted a goal in her third consecutive contest, her fifth straight game with at least one point. 
  • Kristina Fisher recorded goals in back-to-back games for the first time in her collegiate career after tallying two scores against Keuka last week.

Nazareth hosts its Senior Day against Hartwick, Saturday, Oct. 4. Start time is slated for 2 p.m. at NLPA Field.
