NORTHFIELD, VT – The 13th-ranked Nazareth women's hockey team faced stiff competition at the Norwich East-West Classic for the second consecutive day on Monday, falling 3-0 to #3-ranked Amherst of the consolation game.
Nazareth drops to 7-4 on the loss, while Amherst moves to 8-1 on the season.
After dropping a 2-0 decision against #7 Plattsburgh on Sunday night, the Golden Flyers were held off the scoreboard for the second-straight night.
Nazareth battled hard against the feisty Mammoths, holding them off the scoreboard until late in the second period as a cross-ice pass made its way in.
The Golden Flyers pressed late in the contest and had a strong flurry with three minutes on the clock, but were unable to light the lamp. Shortly after, Amherst roofed a shot to go up 2-0.
The Mammoths added an empty net goal late to seal the win.
McKinley Hoff finished the game with 25 saves in net.
Shots on goal favored Amherst 26-25. The Mammoths were 0-for-3 with the extra attacker and the Golden Flyers were 0-for-2.
Sophomore
Nikki Sharp led Nazareth with five shots on goal.
Nazareth will be back in action over the weekend for another tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Morrisville Mustang Cup. Nazareth will square off against Elmira on Friday at 2 p.m.
