ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman
Ave Meteyer was the third player over the weekend to net her first-career goal as the Nazareth women's hockey team defeated Chatham 5-1 on Saturday at Tim Horton's Iceplex for the Don Litzelman Foundation Face-off Against Cancer Game. Classmate Amy Laskoswski scored two goals in the game, her fifth and sixth of the season.
Nazareth moves to 11-5-1 overall and 5-1 in UCHC play, while Chatham is now 2-14-1 and 0-6, respectively.
After a scoreless first, there were three goals in the second.
Meteyer netted her first-career goal on a beautiful wrap-around goal. Meteyer took the pass at the far circle from
Corsica Skibinski and took it around the net for the tally.
Chatham evened the game with four minutes remaining in the period, before Laskowski netted a goal in tight off a rebound to help Nazareth regain the lead for good heading into the second intermission.
All three goals in the third period came at the hands of the Golden Flyers.
Laskowski got her second of the day with a shorthanded goal midway through the third. Nearly four minutes later,
Sami Quackenbush was able to secure her first goal as a Golden Flyer. She stole the puck at center ice, fired a shot, and then put in her own rebound.
Julia Holmes netted her second goal of the weekend on a 5-on-3 power play at the 15:02 mark, roofing a shot into the top corner with assists to Meteyer and
Allie Zack.
McKinley Hoff made six saves in the winning effort.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday, traveling to Hilbert for a 2 p.m. contest.
