ROCHESTER, NY – Geneseo's Dakota Zarudny netted the game-winning goal :59 seconds into overtime as the Nazareth men's hockey team fell 4-3 to #3 Geneseo on Friday night at Tim Hortons Iceplex.
Logan Tobias scored two goals in the losing effort.
Nazareth picks up one point for the overtime loss. The Golden Flyers are now 6-6-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the UCHC, while Geneseo is now 12-1-1 and 8-0-1 in league play.
The first period saw four goals, one apiece from each team, before the Knights scored the final two.
Trailing 1-0, the Flyers put together a beautiful goal at the 7:09 mark.
Jeremy Swartz threaded a long pass to Tobias at the blue line, who made a moved a dropped it back to
Blake Frost on the right wing for the tally.
Geneseo scored with five minutes a 1:20 left in the period to lead 3-1.
The defense stood tall in the second period and Tobias netted two goals to make it 3-3 heading into the third.
Tobias' first goal came near the midway point as his initial shot was saved, before jamming in the rebound.
He netted his team-leading 8
th goal of the season with just over four minutes left in the period when the Golden Flyers were shorthanded.
Antoine Lucier knocked the puck forward and Tobias outskated everyone to beat the Knights goaltender through the five-hole.
Dylan Wiemer made a season-high 43 saves.
Nazareth will travel to Geneseo on Saturday for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
