ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's soccer squad surrendered the final two goals of the game, falling 3-2 on Saturday to a strong Ithaca Bombers squad.
Grace Palczewski and
Lauryn Obey were the goal scorers for Nazareth.
Nazareth is now 3-2, while Ithaca remains unbeaten at 4-0-1.
The Bombers took to the offensive early and often, eventually breaking through in the 12
th minute as Allison Heft loft a shot over the head of
Annika Monfort. She finished the game with five saves.
Nazareth was held without a shot in the opening half, while the Bombers registered seven.
Nazareth's first shot came five minutes into the second half, on a blast from Obey that was tipped over the bar.
On the ensuing corner kick, a short combination with
Haley Glassman and
Taylor Ashe led to a driven ball to the back post that Palczwewski put in. It was Palczewski's fourth career goal,
Nearly eight minutes later, the Golden Flyers found the back of the net again, as
Tatum Overton slotted a pass back to Obey for a blast from 25-yard out into the corner of the net to make it 2-1.
Just under minutes later, Ithaca equalized a well-timed run and shot in the 67
th minute.
The winning goal came on another solid strike from the bombers in the 82
nd minute.
Ithaca finished the game with a 13-3 edge in shots.
Nazareth returns to action next Saturday traveling to Hartwick for a 2 p.m. contest to open up Empire 8 play.
