Top 100 Moment: November 30, 1977 - Men's basketball defeats Eisenhower JV 77-67 in first-ever athletic contest for men's sports at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY - In the first-ever men's varsity contest, the Nazareth men's basketball team defeated Eisenhower JV 77-67 on November 30, 1977.

Rick Harris led the way with 28 points and seven rebounds. Ed Toppi and Chris Devins each had 13 points in the win.

The Golden Flyers finished the year 15-4 overall.

The President at the time was Robert A. Kidera, Nazareth's sixth president, who was hired on July 1, 1976. Nazareth's current gymnasium is named after Kidera who is a vital piece of Nazareth's athletic history. Said Kidera, "I view the development of an intercollegiate athletic program for both men and women at Nazareth as a vital dimension in our campus life."

In 1977-78, the Nazareth athletics department consisted of basketball, swimming, golf, tennis, and volleyball.
