ROCHESTER, NY – Top-seeded St. John Fisher scored eight first quarter goals and cruised to its fifth-consecutive Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, downing Nazareth 20-8.
Quinn McKercher finished with five goals for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth finishes the season 12-7 overall. The 12 wins are the most for the Golden Flyers since 2016 when they went 12-6.
It was the fourth straight year that the Golden Flyers falling to the Cardinals in the Championship game.
McKercher finishes his illustrious career at Nazareth with 167 goals and 90 assists for 257 points. His 257 points is fifth all-time on Nazareth's all-time scoring list.
It was a hot start for the Cardinals, scoring the first give goals of the game, less than five minutes in.
Brendan Regan scored Nazareth's first goal with 6:02 left.
The other goal in the quarter came from McKercher and Nazareth was down 8-2 after 15 minutes of play.
McKercher scored 1:35 into the second, before the Cardinals used a four-goal run to take a 12-3 lead into the break.
Four more goals to begin the second half extended the margin to 16-3 before McKercher netted Nazareth's lone goal of the quarter from
Owen Riley.
Nazareth did outscore the Cardinals 4-1 in the final quarter with McKercher netting two of his five goals and
Quinn Conroy and
Louis Cogliandro finding the back of the net.
McLean Ralston allowed 19 goals in 49:14 of action and made 11 saves.
Zac Isaac allowed one goal and made two saves in 10:46 of action.
