ROCHESTER, NY - The 2005 Nazareth men's soccer team earned in first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament after a 1-1 tie with RIT on November 5, advancing following a 4-2 edge in penalty kicks. RIT and Nazareth were crowned co-champions, however the Golden Flyers earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks.
Goalkeeper Alex Kilroy made two saves during the shootout to help propel the Golden Flyers to victory. Nazareth converted on all four of its penalty attempts from Mike Deichmiller, Matt Elliot, Ed Babcock, and Jeremy Bergan.
Trailing 1-0, Babcock headed in a goal in the 71st minute to even the score.
Nazareth fell to Brockport 2-0 in the NCAA tournament.
