BRIGHTON, NY – Freshman Madelyn Collier placed third overall in the Novice Lightweight Class to lead the Nazareth University Rowing team at the Brighton Erg Challenge competition over the weekend at Brighton High School.
The competition featured 2,000-meter challenges with timed results using the dry-land training Ergs.
In the Novice Lightweight competition, Nazareth finished with three rowers including coxswain freshman Eva Ertel finishing among the top-seven with Collier taking third, freshman Laurelle Ogden fifth and Ertel seventh.
The Golden Flyers had five rowers in the top nine finishers in the Collegiate Open Class with freshman Kathryn Cooper leading the way in fourth place. Junior Katherine Wilburn was fifth, freshman Mary Thornburg was sixth, freshman Veronica Messer was seventh and freshman Kayden Musengo was ninth for the Golden Flyers.
In the second class of Open Collegiate rowers, Nazareth had three top finishers with graduate student Aleta Tessaglia-Hymes in eighth, junior Sarah Danesh in 10th and sophomore Wania Ansari finishing in 19th place.
The coxswain for the Nazareth rowers was freshman Jennifer Beaver.
On the day, each Nazareth rower achieved a personal best time at the 2K distance with Tessaglia-Hymes turning in a sub 8-minute time.
