ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's lacrosse team put together a spirited comeback attempt on Wednesday, ultimately falling 14-9 to Clarkson University in non-conference action at NLPA field.
Julia Dietz led the Golden Flyers with four points, while
Sophia Scialdone and
Kate Metzler each added two goals and an assist.
Nazareth falls to 3-6 with the loss, while Clarkson moves to 7-1.
Trailing by eight goals late in the third quarter, Nazareth used a flurry of five-straight goals into the fourth to make it a game.
Scialdone had the first goal at the end of the third and another goal in the fourth.
Dietz,
Liddie Hoare and Scialdone scored for the Golden Flyers over a 1:40 span to draw within 12-8. Over two minutes later
Makenna Misiurewicz capped the run to make it 12-9 with under nine minutes.
The Golden Flyers were unable to find the net the rest of the way, however, and the Knights closed out the win with two more goals less than :30 seconds apart with over seven minutes to play.
Nazareth did not record a goal in the first quarter and was down 5-0 after 15 minutes.
The Golden Flyers did score the first goal of the second quarter from Dietz.
The connection of
Maggie Vay and
Kate Metzler combined for goals as well in the second. Metzler found Vay on the man-up to make it 6-2 and to close out the half, Vay found Metzler to make it 8-3.
The draw control was a problem for the Golden Flyers, as they lost 17 of 26.
Allie Klestinec made 13 saves between the pipes.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, hosting Sage for Empire 8 play at 1 p.m.
