ROCHESTER, NY - It's not very often that you get a crack at the #1 team in the nation, but the Nazareth men's hockey squad made the most of its opportunity with top-ranked Oswego on December 31, 2016, downing the Lakers 3-0. The win was the consolation game of the Northfield Saving Bank Tournament held at Norwich University.
The Golden Flyers had a dandy of a performance from freshman Michael Tilford who made 25 saves to earn the shutout in just his second collegiate start.
Nazareth added a goal in each period, the first coming from John Power with assists to Austin Romzek and Ryan Walter. In the second period, Brad Pizzey found the net from Romzek and Cody Antonini to push the lead to 2-0.
In the third, Justin LaCorte sealed the victory with an empty net goal.
