ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's basketball team built a 16-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back, downing visiting Lycoming 71-50 on Saturday afternoon. Katie MaClachlan led all scorers with 14 points, to go along with five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Madalyn Kelly and
Molly Benetti each contributed 13 points in the win.
Nazareth is now 4-2 overall, while Lycoming drops to 1-6.
The Golden Flyers held the Warriors to shooting just 15.4 percent in the opening quarter to build a 23-7 lead.
Nazareth's lead was 40-21 at the break.
Lycoming was able to outscore Nazareth 14-10 in the third but Nazareth remained in control the whole contest.
Nazareth attempted 33 3-pointers, hitting 10 of them. Benetti neared a double-double with nine boards to go along with the 13 points. Kelly and
Kiara Anglin each had four steals – Anglin accounted for nine points in the win.
Sarina McDowell had six points.
Nazareth will host the Sandy DeWolf McCormack Memorial Holiday Tournament on December 29 and 30. The Golden Flyers host Elms on the 29
th and the other two teams are WPI and Hartford.
