UTICA, NY – Senior
Joey Schaefer was the lone goal-scorer for the Nazareth men's hockey team it fell to Utica University 6-1 on Saturday night.
The Golden Flyers now stand 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the UCHC, while the Pioneers are 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Naz was held scoreless through the first period and couldn't strike against Utica until around the 14-minute mark of the second period, after they gained the advantage on the powe rplay. Junior
Blake Frost lasered the puck down to senior
Anthony Quinlivan waiting below the goal-line, who passed to Schaeffer. Schaeffer was perfectly placed as the bumper in the slot and managed to fire the puck home to eliminate the potential for a home shutout for the Pioneers.
Utica fought back for two quick goals, and senior goaltender
Matt Sayles was pulled after seeing 28 shots on goal. Sophomore
Lincoln Crosby entered the game with 3:30 left in the second period and was able to hold off the Pioneers until the final minute of regulation, and the final score was 6-1. Crosby stopped eight shots.
The Golden Flyers next play at home in a weekend series against Chatham University next week on November 15
th at 7 p.m.
