ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's soccer team netted three goals in the first half and cruised to a 4-1 victory over Houghton University on Saturday at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Tatum Overton scored twice, while
Haley Glassman and
Emily Berlinski each found the back of the net.
Nazareth is now 5-3-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the Empire 8, while Houghton is 5-5-1 and 2-2, respectively.
Nazareth scored three goals in a 16-minute span to open up the game. Glassman scored the first goal on a misplayed ball by the Highlanders defense, taking it in along and blasting it into the far corner in the 10
thminute for her second goal of the season.
In the 22
nd minute, a great team effort led to the Golden Flyers second goal.
Caitlyn Smithers drove a low ball to
Lauren Richie, who dribbled toward the goal and made an unselfish pass to Overton on the back post for a tap-in goal.
Less than five minutes later,
Haley Dennison was taken down in the box and Overton made good on the penalty kick opportunity. Overton is tied for the conference lead with seven goals this season.
It was 3-0 at the half.
Houghton found the next in the 66
th minute to pull within 3-1.
Berlinski scored her first career goal in the 80
th minute, curling a shot into the far post from 20-yards out to help Nazareth regain a 4-1 advantage.
Annika Monfort played 69 minutes, making one save and allowing one goal.
Teagan Anna closed out the game, making two saves.
Nazareth hosts Brockport at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a conference matchup.
